For sale I have my lovely Cabart 74 a Paris oboe no.8814.
I bought this in 1993, with money my grandpa left me, when I was 13 to take my Grade 8 and for my teaching diploma. So I would say it is suitable for intermediate plus.
It had belonged to my oboe teacher before, I believe from new. I am very sad to part with it, however that is just me being sentimental.
Unfortunately after having my children and through one thing and another, it has remained in it's case, in a cupboard for 15 yrs. It needs a new loving home.
I took it to have a quote for a service for getting it playable (I noticed with the help of an ancient reed that the E and F, using the 1st octave key sounded a bit grungey). All the other notes were fine and I think the octave key may have been sticking. Anyway, the oboe repair guy said that what really needed doing to it would be a complete strip down, clean and to lubricate the rods to get it back to it's former playing glory (he said the pads were ok for now). He quoted me £220.00 for this service.
I have decided to try and sell first at a reduced cost and for the buyer to get the work done as I a) really don't have the spare cash and am reluctantly selling in order to make money b) I don't have too much time at the moment. It maybe that you find a cheaper quote or that you are capable of carrying out that sort of job yourself!
I called oboe specialists to get a value on a 2nd hand Cabart 74. They said in good condition, which it is (just needs that service to get it sounding beautiful again) I would be looking at around £2,000.00 which would make sense thinking how much I bought it for. Taking the service quote into consideration I would accept £1,750.00 or best offer
It is wooden and has 3 octave range, covered keys.
The case is not Cabart,it is made by Orly, France. There is room for a reed box and grease pot, but they are not in the case. There is a separate zip section on top of the case and an adjustable strap.
It will be sold as seen- no returns or refunds. I have explained any issues and had it looked at by someone that services oboes, as stated. If you want to view before buying, please message me. it won't let me upload photo's as too large. I shall try when possible or could email photo's... I have only given a 7/10 due to the fact it needs a clean and strip down etc. The actual condition of the oboe is great.
