A beautiful and well maintained, full sized violin. Body length 35cms/string length: 32.5cms/stop/mensur;19.2cms. It is a rare and fine example of the South German School c1780-1800, possibly made by a member of the Klotz family after Sebastian Klotz. The violin has proof it has been built by a single craftsman. The choice of timber was made conscientiously only an experience violin maker would choose for both front and back made of one piece carefully selecting the grain to be wider on the bass side and narrower on the treble resulting in excellent acoustic attributes.
The neck and scroll is late 1950’s, French style, maple, medium regular grain, strong figure throughout, very likely to have been fitted post WW11 IN London.
Written inside in pencil there is a label/brand ‘repaired by J S Collins Edinburgh Anno 1860’.
The violin comes with a hard case and cover over the case and a chin rest.
I have two bows one bow comes with the violin.
The second bow is full size handmade, professionally crafted with good quality materials. The stick is strong, has a good camber and it is very well balanced. Mounting: pearl dot on ebony frog, plain silver adjuster, silver ferrule, bone tip. Origin German, Cirea mid 1950s. Weight is 59 grams. It is very good condition, no heavy wear or tear, re-haired in December 2011.
The violin (selling for £3000.00) and bow (selling for £450.00) has a company letter headed certificate from Moseley violins in Birmingham. Delivery and insurance for postage in the UK is £25.95.
